A 71 year old southeast Wisconsin woman who was the subject of a Silver Alert late last night was located ‘safe’ here in Manitowoc early this morning. The female identified as Carolyn Hammond left her residence in Mequon about 10:30 Monday morning, missed a lunch appointment and hadn’t been seen or heard from since. The Silver Alert issued at 10:30 pm by the department of justice was canceled shortly after 2:30 am, after she was found in the lakeshore area. According to LT. Robert Arps of the Manitowoc Police Department, an officer spotted an SUV driving at a high rate of speed in the 2200 block of Franklin Street with the high beams on so he conducted a traffic stop. It was at that time he learned the driver was Hammond, who had the Silver Alert activated for her. Hammond was transported to the Manitowoc Police Department and was safely reunited with her husband at approximately 4:20 am on June 12th. A statewide silver alert is issued when a person is missing and believed to have dementia, or some other cognitive impairment.
