The Manitowoc City Council’s Finance committee held a nearly 3-hour meeting Tuesday night with more than ‘20’ discussion and action items on the agenda. Chair Jim Brey tells Seehafer News the committee agreed to move forward with recommendation for approval of the request for a 60-day timeline extension on a development agreement with Doneff’s Schuette building.
The committee is anxious to get that downtown project started with money from a TIF district after it became apparent that the previous deadline of June 30th would Not be met. The recommendation now goes to the city council next Monday. In other committee action the panel recommends the city transfer $800,000 from the General Undesignated Reserve fund to purchase the Canadian National land, also known as the CN peninsula. Alderman Brey indicated the city could take ownership of the downtown riverfront property by mid-November. And, a search is underway by the city to fill the Community Development Director and Associate Planner-G-I-S coordinator positions, due to resignations. Nick Sparacio is leaving to take the position of executive director of the Central Brown County Water Authority closer to his home in Green Bay. And, Tyler Callum has also decided to accept a job outside the community and closer to his hometown.
