The Manitowoc Lincoln High School boys’ soccer team had to overcome some early adversity In posting a 3-to-1 win over host Fond du Lac in the Ships season opener last night. Coach Chris Callen explained his goalkeeper received a ‘red-card’ for handball outside the box, “deliberately” preventing a scoring opportunity 18-minutes into the match. The Ships then had to play the remaining 72 minutes down one player. The Cardinals then scored the first goal to lead 1-nil at halftime. Lincoln then came roaring-back in the 2nd half, thanks to a hat trick from Josh Gutman. Josh was assisted by Vince Kelly on two of those goals, with the third helper from Billy Kronschnabel. Garrett Hammill & Trevor DeBruin each had a pair of saves while Lincoln doubled Fondy in shots on goal 10-to-5. The Ships return to action ‘tonight at 7:00’ when they face the co-op squad of Roncalli/Two Rivers at the newly-renovated Rubick Athletic Field.
