This Sunday marks the Sesquicentennial of the Calvary Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum on Manitowoc’s southside. Jerry Schermetzler, the Family Service Manager, said St. Boniface Cemetery began 150-years ago, August 31st 1868 on a five-acre site on South 10th Street.
Schermetzler explains that their motto is “Life has changed….not ended.”
Their anniversary observance will begin Sunday morning with an outdoor mass under a tent at 10:30, on the front lawn.
That’ll be followed by a traditional funeral lunch that will feature Chermake hotdogs. Calvary cemetery has expanded to 25 acres in present day with plans for more additions. Schermetzler said they’ll also have “Walking Tours” available Sunday with a map..marking the burial sites of 34-priests and deacons.
