Elaine Meta Schurr, age 92 of Manitowoc died early Monday Morning, November 5, 2018 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Elaine was born on July 19, 1926 in the town of Two Rivers, daughter of the late Henry and Frieda (Kiel) Meyer. She married Henry A. Schurr on June 8, 1946 at First Reformed United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2012. Elaine and her husband Henry farmed in the Manitowoc area for many years. She was an active member of First Reformed United Church of Christ and actively participated on many committees, was a church greeter, cook and helper for many fund-raising events and funeral lunches. Elaine also provided he famous Rosettes for nieces and nephews special events. Elaine enjoyed Polka dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include her two brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry (Betty) Meyer, Two Rivers; Kenneth (Mary) Meyer, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews and many other friends also survived. She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Frieda Meyer; her husband: Henry A. Schurr; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Martha (Vernon) Schultz; Lucille (Kenneth) Boeckman; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mae (Elton) Hougen; Irma (Kermit) Johnson; Ruth (Charles) Hougen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 502 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Laurel Grove and Shady Lane Nursing Care Center for the care and compassion given to Elaine.
