On Angel’s Wings, Betty Ruzek, age 90, of Manitowoc, ascended into heaven on the morning of Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Shady Lane Nursing Center, Manitowoc.
Betty was born on February 3, 1928 in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Adolph and Elizabeth (Karbon) Cherney. She attended local area schools and graduated with the class of 1946 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Betty met and married the love of her life Lester Charles Ruzek son of Charles and Libby (Jirkowic) Ruzek, and was married on July 17, 1946 at Saint James Catholic Church in Cooperstown. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2012 after 66 years of marriage.
Betty was a Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer’s fan. In the past, Betty and Lester supported their children by attending sports, music, dancing, theatre and academic programs. Most of all she had a passion for dancing with Lester until she had to share the spotlight with their three daughters. Betty was a member of NE Wisconsin Chapter AM-POW, serving on the board of directors and Junior Vice Commander, also VFW Post #659 Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Grand. She enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Manitowoc.
She is survived by her four children: Sandra Rammer, Appleton; Bonny Meacham, Appleton; Steven Ruzek (fiancée Lisa Quistorf), Two Rivers; Elizabeth Gadson, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Andrew Meacham (fiancée Felisha Clavelle); Todd (Dawn) Rammer; Tara (Edward) Colon; Ryan Ruzek; Sarah (Patrick) Hartwick; Pasia Gadson; Anthony Gadson; Robert Moss; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Charles Ruzek, AZ; sisters-in-law: Bernice (August) Suemnicht, Reedsburg; Evelyn Steeber, Kellnersville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Adolph and Elizabeth Cherney; three sisters: Evangeline Konop; Norma Grenier; Alice Kornely; one sister-in-law: Charlotte Grall; two brothers-in-law: Emil Blahnik, Richard Steeber.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Jose Lopez will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow lunch at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. A Memorial Fund has been established in Betty’s name.
