No one wants to be involved in an emergency situation. That being said, if the time were to come that such a situation were to arise in Manitowoc County, the first people to hear about it tend to be the dispatchers at the Emergency Dispatch Center. Emergency Services Director for the County, Travis Waack was on the WCUB 980 AM Breakfast Club yesterday and explained what exactly the Dispatch center does.
Audio PlayerThe position is not one for the faint of heart, as dispatchers answer calls from people in very stressful situations, from all over the County. We asked Waack if there were any prerequisite qualifications to apply for the job.
Audio PlayerWaack said that there are typically 3-5 dispatchers on the clock at one time, covering all three shifts. It is a 365 day a year operation because disasters do not take a holiday.
