A federal analysis by U-S-D-A forestry experts finds significant wood decay in the 87-year-old observation tower at Potawatomi State Park. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources closed the tower to the public in the winter of 2017. Plans to tear down the tower were criticized, so the feds were called-in to safety test it. The Sturgeon Bay Historical Society is doing some testing of its own — before a final decision is made on tearing down the tower first erected in 1932.
