An 82-year-old man accused of a 1976 double murder, is scheduled to make an appearance in a Marinette County Circuit Courtroom this afternoon. Investigators say advances in D-N-A technology led them to Raymand Vannieuwenhoven and formal charges were filed Thursday. Vannieuwenhoven is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree sexual assault. He was arrested last week in the July 9, 1976 death of 25-year-old David Schuldes and 24-year-old Ellen Matheys. Schuldes and Matheys were both found shot to death. Matheys was sexually assaulted. DNA found on her shorts was matched to DNA found on an envelope that Vannieuwenhoven had licked. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
