Branden Dassey, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of Theresa Halbach in 2005, was transferred to the Oshkosh Correctional Institution. Dassey’s attorney, Laura Nirder stated in a tweet, “Due to his fine character & stellar behavior in prison, Brendan has earned a transfer to a medium-security facility in Oshkosh, WI, where he’ll have greater freedom and more job/activity opportunities.” He was previously being held in the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage WI, which means he will be closer to home. While a lot of the spotlight has been on Dassey’s Uncle, Steven Avery, Dassey’s case took a huge blow back in June after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal.
