The lot where the Manitowoc Farmers Market takes place is now in line to receive over $130,000 in improvements. The Briess Malting owned lot on Quay Street will include more green space, new street lights along the riverwalk, a crosswalk from the lot to the library, and three new electrical access panels. The 200 and 400 amp boxes are for use by any entertainment acts and food trucks that will utilize the space. The Common Council may have approved the upgrades, but there was some debate on if it was a good use of taxpayer money. Alderman Lee Kummer says that he believes it to be a misuse of tax money, but Community Development Director April Kroner disagrees. The lot is specifically identified in the Downtown Master Plan as a catalyst site that will be used throughout the year. The improvements are expected to begin soon.
