The SS Badger cruised into the newly renovated dock in Manitowoc, signaling the start of a new season of transporting passengers and vehicle from Ludington Michigan to Manitowoc. The positive economic impact of the shortcut across Lake Michigan can be felt in both communities. Brock Weyer at the Courthouse Pub says many businesses benefit when the new SS Badger season starts. “Our entire staff is already excited,” Weyer told us. “We are staffing more heavily, and our business will go up probably 30 to 40%.”
Built in 1952, the 410-foot Badger can Carry 600 passengers and 180 vehicles. The coal-fired SS Badger will have once a day service until June 14th when the ship will navigate the Manitowoc to Ludington Michigan crossing twice a day.
