Around 145 workers in Manitowoc are looking for new employment, as Tramontina U.S. Cookware has announced that they have ceased operations at their Manitowoc branch. The Sugar Land Texas based aluminum cookware producer will also be reducing their workforce at their home station by around 100 workers. Marcelo Borges, the President & CEO of Tramontina USA, Inc. voiced his regret for the decision, but said in a release, “Due to the production cost increases over several years, our shareholders decided to cease manufacturing operations at our U.S. facility as a strategic step towards consolidating our production within the group’s existing factories in Brazil, which allows us to focus more on product development, sales and logistics in the U.S.” Tramontina has been actively searching for a company to buy the Manitowoc plant, but nothing has been finalized. A representative of Tramontina said employees were informed of the closure this morning.
