The recent combination of very warm weather and inviting amenities at the Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center in Citizen Park has made for a busy place. Amy Fricke-Weigel, President of the Center’s board, said the pool has been getting close to capacity every day since the heatwave began, including last weekend’s 52 team youth baseball tournament. She told SeehaferNews.com that it was “a beautiful community event, to see this park just come alive, a lot of different cities came last weekend and utilized the pool and our miniature golf course.”
Andrew Weigel is one of the Aquatic Center’s Red Cross certified lifeguards, & he joked that he loves sitting in the sun and getting a tan. He also said he enjoys the interaction with the guests, including dumping buckets of water on people lounging on the lazy river.
City resident Pat Kluczinske was one of those visiting the Aquatic Center when we were there on Thursday. She said that her family has a cottage up north, but when they want an escape more close to home, they go to the Aquatic Center. Pat’s 7-year old grandson, Oliver Wetzel, of Mishicot was with his Mom and grandparents, and he told us that he really enjoys the water slide and the lazy river.
Oliver said he’s in “summer retirement” from school! He will be a 2nd grader this Fall at Otto H. Schultz Elementary in Mishicot.
The Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center opened for the season beginning June 8th. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday noon to 6:30 p.m. and Friday & Saturday noon to 7:30 p.m.
