The 2019 growing season opened with cooler and wetter conditions than what we have observed in recent memory resulting in many acres of late planted corn. These late planted acres may require a new approach to managing, harvesting and pricing late planted corn for silage and will be among the topics discussed at the Sheboygan County Forage Council Twilight Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August, 22nd, 2019 at Double Dutch Dairy, The Stapel Families, W3653 Hoitink Road, Cedar Grove, WI. The farm opens to guests at 6:00 pm with brats and the educational program kicking off at 7:00 pm.
Among the featured speakers are specialists in corn silage management and dairy nutrition. Dr. Joe Lauer, UW-Madison Extension Corn Specialist, is responsible for conducting applied research and delivering Extension programs relating to corn grain and corn silage production for Wisconsin. Joe will provide an in-depth look at, Managing, Harvesting and Pricing Late Planted Corn for Silage.
Dr. Steve Woodford is a Dairy Nutritionist with Nutrition Professionals Inc. in Sheboygan Falls. Woodford will discuss, The Benefits of High Quality Forages and What I Have learned Feeding High Producing Dairy Herds.
The Sheboygan River Progressive Farmers will also be available to share information on how to participate in cost-share programs for on-farm water quality and conservation practices. There will also be information available on fall seeding crops after silage or grain crops.
