The Manitowoc area has been without a school of cosmetology for a number of years now, but that will change effective January 2020.
The Bella School of Cosmetology in Oshkosh will close Friday, December 20th after the owner’s building lease runs out, but, enter Maureen and Dennis Lehman, co-owners of Lords N Ladies Salon & Spa at 1440 South 39th Street. Maureen tells Seehafer News that after some extensive remodeling to the salon, the school will be moved to Manitowoc. She said that she was “able to downsize in some areas in order to be able to put the school in the building.” They are currently working on federal funding, and accreditation then they will be “ready to roll.”
Lehman, who has been in the business for 37-years, including 27 at their current location, said “it was getting very hard to recruit new cosmetologists.” Previously, the cosmetologists would come to her, but now Lehman has to go out and actively seek them. That change was directly related to the beauty school in Manitowoc closing five years ago.
Sara Schneider is Admissions Director for Bella Academy and also serves as a salon & spa manager. She says that the school is great because of the small classes, allowing the students to “get so much individualized attention” which should help the school be successful. Schneider says it’s a 1-year program with students starting in January, April, and September and she pointed out that the next closest schools are in the Fox Valley. She says that she believes the local nature of the school will attract some of those people who wanted to do attend but didn’t want to drive over half an hour to get to classes.
Besides cosmetology instruction starting January 2nd, Lehman and Schneider said they have plans to also do barber training beginning next spring. To find out more about the newly located school you can visit BellaAcademy.com for information about classes and financial aid.
