Manitowoc Police responded to an overdose call last night.
Officers and EMS were sent to a home in the 1000 block of North 12th Street at 9:30 PM and found the 27-year-old female unconscious on the floor.
Two doses of NARCAN were used and EMS performed life saving measures, before transporting her to Aurora Medical Center.
The woman’s downstairs neighbor, who called in the incident, told officers that the victim had returned home approximately half an hour prior from a meeting at the Lighthouse Recovery Center. The neighbor said she heard a “loud thud” upstairs, and went to check on her neighbor, assuming she had slipped in the shower.
Upon inspection, a syringe was found on her bed, so she immediately called 911. She continued to perform CPR on the victim until police arrived.
Once she was wake and alert, the victim told police she “shot up and overdosed”, and that she is “going back to prison for all that heroin”.
The victim was cleared at AMC and was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of Possession of Heroin, and Possession of THC.
We reached out to the Lighthouse Recovery Center Executive Director Christma Rusch, who said they were contacted last night about the incident. She clarified that the Tuesday recovery meeting is held at The Haven, but that the victim is a part of their community.
Rusch said that she is going to see the victim today at the jail to help her get back on her path to recovery.
