The Daytona 500 always entertains, but the race yesterday ended with a fiery crash which sent Ryan Newman to the hospital.
While on the final lap of the 62nd iteration of the historic race, Newman had the lead, but was bumped in the backside by Ryan Blaney, causing him to careen into the wall, flip onto his side, before being struck by another driver, which sent him flying through the air. Newman’s number 9 car landed on its roof and slid for a distance with sparks flying, and flames erupting.
Newman is said to be in serious condition, but his life is not in danger.
Denny Hamlin ended up taking the checkered flag, with Blaney coming in second.
