The Manitowoc County Board will vote this month on a proposed 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Resolution.
County Board Chairman Jim Brey tells SeehaferNews.com that the County Board Executive Committee voted 2-1 last Thursday to forward the sanctuary resolution for a vote at the March 17th meeting. Brey voted no, while Kevin Behnke and Rick Gerroll approved it.
Brey said the original proposal submitted by supervisor Don Zimmer was amended and two items were removed including the section which stated that the County Board would support the Sheriff Department’s ability to decide whether or not to enforce unconstitutional firearms laws, and that the Board would not allocate funds to help enforce said laws.
Brey said that these were two sections he agreed with removing because “…we cannot enforce, or essentially tell the Sheriff what laws he can and cannot enforce.”
Brey is hoping the resolution is defeated because “This resolution is basically meaningless.”
There were approximately 75-to-100 people in attendance for the executive committee meeting.
Brey said the public will have a chance to sound off about the resolution prior to the vote at the 6:30 meeting on March 17th.
