Mayor Justin Nickels has officially declared a state of emergency for the City of Manitowoc to help combat the COVID 19 pandemic. The proclamation lists the following that are effective immediately through April sixth.
Department heads now have authorization to apply for any applicable federal, state or County aid that becomes available and to implement any federal or state law changes immediately with follow up on the implementation at the next regularly scheduled Common Council meeting.
Department heads may also approve telework or flexible work schedules for employees suitable to meet the needs of their department until April sixth or further ordered by Nickels.
All travel outside the city limits for training or conferences by City Employees is prohibited, they are directed to limit in-person contact with each other and the public and meetings shall be conducted by phone or videoconference whenever possible. Mayor Nickels is authorized to modify the City Employee Policy Manual to ensure the safety and health of all employees and further suspensions of applicable ordinances, resolutions and any city policies may be taken shall circumstances warrant them necessary.
The following City facilities are ordered closed until April sixth
The Manitowoc Senior Center
Manitowoc Public Library
Rahr West Art Museum
Lincoln Park Zoo
Manitowoc Municipal Court
Evergreen Cemetery Office
City Parks Restrooms are locked
All City reservations made by city facilities are canceled and City Hall will remain open for employees and voting, however citizens must request an appointment before visiting for any other purpose.
