What’s the purpose of the tent that’s set up at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers?
Travis Waack, the Manitowoc County Emergency Management Director tells SeehaferNews.com, “It is actually there in case they have to expand the patient capacity in the emergency department.”
There were rumors circulating that it was set up for drive thru testing for COVID 19, something the public has been curious and somewhat skeptical about in lieu of “no confirmed positive tests” in the county, with many being reported in surrounding counties.
Waack says it comes down to two things state standards and resources or lack thereof.
He said that agencies at the federal level told them that there are some private labs that are producing more tests, but it will “take a while to trickle down to the local level.” So for now, Manitowoc County is having to following the standards set by the State of Wisconsin.
Those standards are that patients must be seriously ill and be hospitalized, which means that even if we tested everyone, the tests would be thrown out unless the individual met the criteria.
Waack praised both Aurora and Holy Family Medical Center for how their response to the COVID-19 outbreak, saying “Both of our hospitals are doing a fantastic job preparing for this. Preparing to make sure that if and when we see a surge of cases here, they have the capability of taking care of those folks.”
