The State Assembly meets this afternoon to take up a COVID 19 relief bill.
Some will be piped in virtually but 25th Assembly District Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc will be there in person. He tells SeehaferNews.com he feels it’s the best way to represent his constituents in this matter.
Even though he has a compromised immune system due to his rheumatoid arthritis, Tittl says he is Willing to go down there because “I think there are enough protections put in place to make sure I’m going to violate any social distancing, I’m not going to violate any rules, that that we are all abiding by the State of Wisconsin.”
The nearly $1 billion, 87-page bill released yesterday does not include a stimulus check for taxpayers like the Federal CARES ACT but Tittl says it does contain a waiver of the one-week waiting period to receive unemployment benefits among other items including “Interest on late payments on taxes…We are doing away with the interest payment for property taxes as well.”
School as are also being affected, as Tittl explained. “School are required to test students with various standardized testing in the 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Under this bill, the requirements to administer these assessments do not apply for the 2019/2020 school year.”
The assembly meets at 1 this afternoon while the Senate plans to vote on the bill tomorrow after they meet at 10 a.m.
Tittl feels it’ll pass relatively easily in both chambers and be signed quickly into law by Governor Evers.
