Mayor Justin Nickels announced today that the City of Manitowoc Memorial Day Parade has been canceled.
Nickels said, “After several discussions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday, May 25th, 2020.”
The Mayor says that the city spoke with, “a few veterans groups who agreed this was the best course of action”. He also mentioned additional “notes” on the decision to cancel the parade saying, “Even if safer at home orders are scaled back, large gatherings will still be questionable at that point in the year” and “Some high school bands and multiple parade participants have already informed us they will not be participating”
Nickels, along with a few individuals plan to host a Memorial Day ceremony via the radio and social media with plans to recognize the importance of Memorial Day during the City’s July Fourth festivities.
