African Americans and Latinos account for about 13 percent of Wisconsin’s population, but they represent half of the state’s COVID-19 cases.
State officials say 30 percent of the people who have died of the virus are African American. That’s why three minority groups – African Americans, Latinos and tribal community members – will have access to free COVID-19 testing.
The plan was announced Thursday by Governor Tony Evers.
The free tests should be available in the next few days at sites all around the state.
The tests will be conducted by the Wisconsin National Guard.
