The Meijer store on Rapids Road in Manitowoc has been standing for quite some time now, and people are starting to wonder when it will actually open.
We spoke with Mayor Justin Nickels who explained that the gas station and convenience store in the parking lot is already open. As for the store itself, Mayor Nickels said, “They’re looking at after Independence Day, July 10th , around that timeframe. They are starting to load the store and get it prepared.”
According to their website, Meijer is requiring all of their workers, vendors and contractors to wear masks, and urges customers to do the same.
When Nickels was questioned regarding the enforceability of masking and social distancing in response to the coronavirus scare, he said “There are really no rules or laws…at all in effect. There’s guidelines. There’s recommendations…A private business can determine on their own merits, what they will and will not allow in their business.”
