The Manitowoc County Health Department has been doing a great job keeping residents up to date on the local statistics surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, but one stat that has not been reported is the number of people that are hospitalized due to the virus.
Emergency Services Director Travis Waack told SeehaferNews.com “Sometimes the Health Department is aware of an individual that is hospitalized, and sometimes they are not. Individuals aren’t necessarily required to report to the Health Department that they are hospitalized.”
While the numbers are hard to nail down, Waack says that they do know “hospitalizations here in Manitowoc are relatively low, and our hospitals are not seeing an overwhelming increase in the number of hospitalized patients.”
Another very important thing to keep an eye on is the capacity of those regional hospitals.
“Our hospitals…are not on an island,” Waack explained. “They work very closely with t heir regional partners in the Fox Valley and in Green Bay. Together, it’s their combined capacity that’s really truly important. Those numbers are also looking good. There certainly are COVID patients in our regional hospitals, but the numbers are not overwhelming at this point.”
After 7 more cases were reported yesterday, Manitowoc County now has 80 total cases, 51 of which are active, and 28 people have recovered.
It should be noted that the age group that is now most affected in Manitowoc County are the 18-25 year olds, accounting for over 20 cases, while 26-35 year olds account for just shy of 20.
