The historic Sheboygan Armory is coming down.
Despite the efforts of many to preserve the building, the demolition process has begun on the 78 year old former gathering place.
An asbestos abatement and other things need to be done before any really tear down can begin.
The City of Sheboygan actually teamed up with the Sheboygan County Historical Society and Museum, and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center to execute a Memorandum of Agreement with the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Officer last April, which allowed the destruction to occur.
The Armory will not be forgotten however, as the City plans to salvage what they can to create an Armory Display. No word on where that will be located.
