Seniors at Manitowoc Lincoln High School were honored over the weekend with their graduation ceremony.
The event, which was aired on WOMT Radio, saw students leave flowers to honor a fallen classmate, before they picked up their diploma folders. One of the senior class speakers was Mia Khalil, and she pointed out the class of 2020 was a class of firsts.
“The class of 2020 has left our mark on the history of Lincoln High School,” Khalil stated. “Surely we will be remembered as the class who had their ceremony canceled due to a pandemic, but we as so much more than just that. We were also the first senior class in 82 years to welcome in both freshmen and sophomores, as we held the responsibility of welcoming and leading around 800 underclassmen into the halls of Lincoln High School.”
Senior Class President Garrett Holsen shipped out for the Naval Academy in Annapolis on July 1st. before he left, Holsen showed his maturity when addressing the Lincoln High School class of 2020.
“The majority of this class was brought into a post 9/11 America, and now we are entering the world as adults into a post COVID-19 world,” Holsen said. “We are the class of adversity. When life seems to be going against you, and times get tough, just remember your roots and what you learned. Just like high school, our lives will be taken one day at a time, one market deal, one project, and paying one bill at a time.”
Students picked up their physical diplomas at Rubik Field.
