A Manitowoc County Deputy, who aided a motorcyclist with serious injuries, was honored by the Manitowoc City Council during their meeting last night (Monday).
Deputy Jonathan Schwede was on patrol on May 30th in the evening hours when city fire and police were dispatched to County Road CR and Viebahn Street on a report of motorcycle vs truck accident.
Deputy Schwede happened to be in the area, and aided the motorcyclist, who had suffered a severe leg injury.
After receiving his Commendation, Deputy Schwede addressed the Council, saying he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, “and on top of that to have the equipment and training needed to do what I had to do.”
Also, at the meeting, WOMT Radio was recognized for being named the Station of the Year in 2019 by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.
Mayor Justin Nickels gave a little history lesson, explaining that “WOMT, which is the World’s Only Mikadow Theater, first went on the air in Manitowoc at 5:30 PM on November 8th of 1926, and has been providing local news, sports, and radio programing to our community ever since.”
WOMT’s parent company, Seehafer Broadcasting owner Mark Seehafer thanked the City Council, and gave credit to his father Don Seehafer, who passed away earlier this year.
