Bail is set at $250 cash each for a mother and son. Police suspect they were involved in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday afternoon.
57-year-old Julie A. Grimm is charged with OWI fourth offense, Fleeing and Huffing, while 34-year-old Nicholas S. Beaupre is charged with Intentionally Abusing a Hazardous Substance and three counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
Police responded to a hit-and-run/with-injury crash at South 35TH and Calumet Avenue. After the crash, authorities located a vehicle with extensive damage to the front passenger side preparing to turn on South 26th Street.
Lights and sirens were activated after a brief pursuit which ended in the 800 block of South 23rd Street.
Officers located Grimm behind the wheel with duster cans on the floor while Beaupre was located in the back seat with what was described as a “blank look on his face” with a duster can on his chest and a second one empty on the floor near the door.
Meanwhile, police say Grimm grabbed an air duster while they were speaking to her son and attempted to huff it and both were taken into custody.
Conditions of bail are that they both maintain absolute sobriety, have “no contact” with each other, and report to MPD for photos and prints upon release.
Both remain in the County Jail with initial appearances scheduled for October 5th.
