Some big changes have come for the Lighthouse Recovery Community Center in Manitowoc.
There is a bit of confusion about what exactly happened, so we reached out to Christma Rusch, the Executive Director of the Lighthouse, who explained that they have absorbed the buildings from the former Marco Treatment Services. Those buildings are now known as Horizons, which is a Recovery Residence, formerly known as sober or transitional living, and is a program that runs underneath the overarching umbrella of the Lighthouse Recovery Community Center.
These new locations are located on South 11th Street and on Marshall Street, while the Lighthouse Center remains at 721 Park Street, across the street from the Rahr-West Art Museum.
The new structures have not been added to their website yet, but Rusch says they are working on it. “We opened the doors on September 14th,”Christma explained. “So just a little over a month now that we have been getting everything together.”
The transition has had its challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, but Christma says it has gone rather smooth. She said they “couldn’t ask for a better group of founding residents.”
The COVID pandemic required them to isolate, but Rusch said “everybody got closer” during their isolation.
The Lighthouse Recovery Community Center aims to help those who are recovering from addiction return to a life without drugs or alcohol.
They are preparing to host a virtual event this weekend called “A Dose of Hope”.
