The Two Rivers Public School District takes pride in being a “Kids at Hope” system and they’re putting their words into action.
Superintendent Lisa Quistorf tells Seehafer News one example of that pledge is “holiday-giving…which actually began around Thanksgiving time. We had a donation of 10 complete thanksgiving meals that were given to our families. Then, our Food Service Department, under the direction of Stacy Watzka, gave out whole meals to families and staff donated their time to put those together…with the families picking up those meals at night.”
Quistorf says the school district worked on the project with community agencies, including St. Peter the Fisherman parish and Two Rivers police. “They sponsored a mitten, glove, and hat drive so they have five overflowing bins with high-quality winter items for our students. We have nearly new or new winter jackets, shop-with-a-cop allowed 19 of their students to create holiday wish needs for our students and families, and local police officers with the help of Santa delivered a generous amount of gifts to students’ homes.”
In addition, said Quistorf, through a generous individual donation 23 families received $40-dollar grocery gift cards while 10 other families with significant needs were helped through the efforts of a local business and two high school students. She stated another $1,040 in cash donations means that a total of 34-students and 140 individuals in the community benefitted from gift-giving this season. Quistorf said, “We celebrate the really ‘giving’ community that we are along the lakeshore.”
