The weekend COVID-19 numbers in Manitowoc County were a bit of a roller coaster.
In general, it was a pretty decent weekend, with a total of 115 new cases compared to 143 recoveries. However, the weekend started on a down note, as 51 new cases were added on Friday, alongside 29 recoveries, and one person died. That individual was under the age of 66 and was from a municipality other than Manitowoc or Two Rivers.
Then the tide started to turn on Saturday as only 32 new cases were added, and 48 people recovered, but another individual passed away. This person was over 85 years old and was from Manitowoc.
Those deaths bring the death toll up to 57, while the other pandemic totals sit at 6,675 cases, 5,692 recoveries, and 926 cases remain active.
There was some other good news though, as the number of people hospitalized in the northeast region of hospitals fell by 8 to 82, the lowest point it has been since that stat began being tracked. Also, the percentage of ICU beds in use fell 8 percentage points to 71%.
In Sheboygan County, the Division of Public Health reported 58 new cases on Friday, along with 65 recoveries and one death. That individual was reportedly over 80 years old at the time of their death.
This brings their totals up to 12,077 cases, 11,213 recoveries, 757 active cases, and 107 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
