The Manitowoc County Health Department is feeling a little frustrated right now, as they are not receiving nearly enough vaccines.
During his COVID-19 briefing, yesterday on WOMT and WCUB Radio, Emergency Services Director Travis Waack said that over 2,500 people have received the vaccine in Manitowoc County, with 500 of those coming from the Health Department.
“This week we learned that we will be getting another 200 vaccines, which is about half of what we actually asked for,” Waack stated. “We have the capacity to give more vaccines, but unfortunately, the supply is just not there coming from the State.”
The Lakeshore’s representative in the State Assembly, Paul Tittl, also spoke with us on the issue, and praised Waack, while voicing his disappointment with how the state is handling the situation.
“Travis has been buying supplies since back in April and May. We have all the supplies we just need the vaccinations,” he said bluntly. “If the federal government is not getting them here fast enough then the Governor needs to tell us that, but for Manitowoc County to only get half of what they asked for, I think it needs to speed up.”
Tittl went on to explain that as far as the distribution of the vaccine is concerned, the State has “room for improvement,” and that they “need to have a better plan…Manitowoc County has a plan. Just give them the vaccines and they will get it done.”
SeehaferNews.com also asked Tittl if he would get the vaccine if offered, and he said he would, but only after all seniors citizens, frontline workers, police, and firemen who want it receive their allocation. As far as the safety of the vaccine, Tittl said bluntly, “Smarter people than I have worked on this and I trust them.”
SeehaferNews.com reported yesterday that 160,000 coronavirus vaccine doses are just sitting in hospitals and pharmacies across Wisconsin.
Governor Evers continues to blame the federal government for the slow-rollout of the state’s vaccination program but is not saying why there are so many doses sitting idle.
