LaVerne C. Gutman, age 98, a former St. Nazianz resident, passed away due to complications with Covid-19 on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc.
She was born April 15, 1922 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Fred and Emma (Metzger) Radandt. LaVerne attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1940. On April 26, 1947 she married Jerome Gutman at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2010. LaVerne was past president of the St. Nazianz Lioness Club, member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #477, member of Christian Mothers of St. Gregory, and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was also a driver for Red Cross and delivered Meals-On-Wheels for many years. LaVerne and Jerry did extensive traveling to foreign countries all over the world and enjoyed it immensely, always meeting new friends who also were world travelers. She was an accomplished seamstress, was excellent at baking, and loved to take care of her flowers, some of which were handed down to her from her mother. LaVerne loved her grandchildren and always was interested to hear what was going on in their lives.
Survivors include her children: Dennis (Judy) Gutman, St. Nazianz, Dale (Jan) Gutman, Appleton, Constance (Joseph) Bell, St. Nazianz, Thomas (Judith) Gutman, Reedsville, and Gene (Teresa) Gutman, Menomonie, WI; 12 grandchildren: Christopher (Krista) Gutman, Valders, Stephanie (Kevin) Berge, Sun Praire, JJ (Niky) Gutman, Sherwood, Stacey (Ryan) Vogels, Appleton, Justin Miller (Adam Flickinger), Chicago, IL, Arik Miller, Shorewood, WI, Melissa (Eric) Braun, Reedsville, Daniel Gutman, Reedsville, Abbey (Steven) Laabs, Greenleaf, Anna (Jordan) Ehr, Menomonee Falls, Christina Gutman, Elkhart, IN, and Catherine Gutman, Kansas City, KS; three step- grandchildren: Stephanie (Mark) Epping, Appleton, Jessica Bell (Eric Northrop), Cottage Grove, WI, and Christine (Jason) Wagner, Madison; 14 great-grandchildren: Sydney Gutman, Milwaukee, Joshua Gutman, Valders, Erin Berge, Milwaukee, Phillip Berge, Milwaukee, William Berge, Sun Praire, Adelyn Gutman, Elijah Gutman, Kyleigh Vogels, Harper Vogels, Mitchell Braun, Emily Braun, Henry Laabs, Madeline Laabs, Claire Laabs, Cameron Ehr, and Marissa Ehr; and five step-great-grandchildren: Cora Epping, Caleb Epping, Lena Northrop, Autumn Wagner, and Harper Wagner. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jerome; her parents: Fred and Emma Radandt; two grandchildren: Greg Gutman and John Gutman; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Fred and Agnes Radandt, George and Marcella Radandt, and Harold and Mary Radandt; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Claribel and Roland Schaus and Leona and Elmore Heinz; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: William and Anna Gutman; and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Alice and Hugh Cumming.
Due to Covid-19, a private family graveside service will be held at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery, Saint Nazianz, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
