The COVID-19 numbers reported by the Manitowoc County Health Department over the weekend continued to show some massive improvement over even a month ago.
We do have to start with some bad news, as another individual did pass away from the virus on Saturday, bringing the death toll up to 60. This individual was under the age of 66 and resided in Manitowoc.
Now for the good news, as only 63 new cases were reported, with half coming in on Friday, and only 8 on Saturday. This is only the third time since September (excluding holidays) that there were less than 10 new cases reported on a single day. That coupled with 86 new recoveries, leaves the pandemic totals at 6,815 cases, 5,882 recoveries, and 873 active cases, which is at the lowest rate it has been since October 5th.
In more good news, the number of people hospitalized for the virus in the northeast region fell dramatically over the weekend. We entered the weekend with 100 patients needing treatment, but that number fell by 22 points, down to 78. The percentage of ICU beds in use remained relatively stagnant however, ending the weekend at 74%.
In Sheboygan County, the Division of Public Health reported 35 new cases on Friday, alongside 61 recoveries. This brings their pandemic totals up to 12,286 cases, 11,555 recoveries, and 620 active cases.
No new deaths were reported, leaving that total at 111.
As a reminder, the Division of Public Health does not issue new updates over the weekend.
