Parents and students alike have voiced their displeasure with high schools doing their classes virtually.
Some schools have recently begun the process of reopening, while others, such as Roncalli High School, have remained open to in-person learning throughout the pandemic.
Manitowoc Lincoln High School was not one of those schools that remained open, and that took its toll on some students. Ripley Walters-Giblin told SeehaferNews.com that her senior year has been “really hard because I lost out on a lot of my senior experiences, especially sports and band which are things I really care about.”
Ripley said she was a 3.9 GPA student before the pandemic, and nearly failed last year due to being unable to focus. “It was really hard to get on the computer every day for eight hours and do all my schoolwork,” she explained.
Another Senior, Joseph Beattie, said that not seeing his friends made his last year at Lincoln a challenge. “That’s part of my motivation for going to school, is getting to see my classmates every day,” he said. “I had trouble staying focused at home, so my grades have definitely seen a dip since before the pandemic.
Ripley and Joseph have recently begun seeing some classmates, as they are a part of a group of International Baccalaureate students that have been helping out at Grow it Forward. We will have a report with more on that later this week.
