The Manitowoc County Health Department has reported another fantastic weekend of COVID-19 numbers.
Only 38 new cases were confirmed over the weekend, with 21 of those coming in on Friday (February 5th), with 170 new recoveries added as well. 50 recoveries were reported on Friday, 55 on Saturday, and 65 on Sunday. This leaves the pandemic totals at 7,066 confirmed cases, 6,348 recoveries, and 657 are still active.
The active case count has now dropped by 160 through the first week of February. There were no new deaths all weekend, leaving that number at 61.
In more good news, the number of people hospitalized for the coronavirus also fell pretty significantly over the weekend. 61 people were occupying ICU beds on Thursday, but by Sunday that number was down to 50. Since the start of February, that statistic has dropped by 32 patients.
The percentage of ICU beds that are in use also fell four percentage points to 68%. It should be noted that percentage is for all ailments requiring hospitalization, not just for those being treated for COVID-19.
Meanwhile in Sheboygan County, in the latest report from the Division of Public Health on Friday, 22 new cases were added, while 50 people recovered. This brings their pandemic totals up to 12,528 cases, 12,081 recoveries, and 324 cases are still active.
There was one more death reported on Friday. This individual was reportedly over the age of 80 and brings the death toll up to 123. Of those deaths, 1 was between 10 and 19 years old, 2 were in the 30-39 age group, 4 in the 40-49-year-old age group, 5 were between 50 and 59, 22 in the 60-69 age group, 27 were between 70 and 79, and 62 were over 80 years old.
