The active COVID-19 case count continues to drop at a pretty steady rate in Manitowoc County.
According to yesterday’s (February 9th) report by the Health Department, only 7 new cases were added, alongside 37 recoveries, leaving 582 cases still active. That number has plummeted in 2021, dropping 500 points since January 1st.
The fact that no new deaths were reported as well leaves the pandemic totals in Manitowoc County at 7,083 confirmed cases, 6,440 recoveries, and 61 deaths linked to the coronavirus.
The hospitalization rate in Northeast Wisconsin also remained stagnant at 53.
It was much of the same in Sheboygan County as well. The Division of Public Health reported only 9 new cases yesterday. That coupled with 23 recoveries, leaves their pandemic totals at 12,574 confirmed cases, 12,207 recoveries, and 242 cases remain active. They also did not report any deaths, leaving that total at 125.
Since the start of the pandemic nearly a year ago, about 9% of Manitowoc County residents has been confirmed to have caught COVID-19, compared to roughly 11% of people living in Sheboygan County. It should be noted that the number of people who actually have caught the virus may be higher, as some people never got tested, or had the virus before testing was widely available.
Of the confirmed cases in Manitowoc County, just about 91% of them have recovered. That rate in Sheboygan County is now up to 97%.
