Kathleen C. “Kathy” Burger, age 71, a Manitowoc resident, joined her beloved husband Dick Burger in eternal life on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
Kathy was born on January 1, 1950 in Waukegan, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Lange Anderson. Kathy attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and Carmel High School in Waukegan, Illinois. She then continued her education at the Dominican College in Racine, Wisconsin where she received her degree in Education. While in college, Kathy met Dick Burger who she married November 18, 1972 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukegan, Illinois. She then took up residence in Manitowoc where she has lived the remainder of her days. She taught 8th grade English at St. Boniface Catholic Grade School until she moved into full time home-keeping and being a present and caring mother for their daughter, Jennifer. Kathy was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Catholic Junior League where she met many of her close friends. She also helped Dick at 4 Seasons Lawn Care and worked at the Holy Family Hospital gift shop. Kathy was an artist, opening her own gift shop, creating artistic works herself to sell and give as gifts, teaching her friends knitting and crafting, and donating those skills for Roncalli High School events. She enjoyed yearly trips to Florida with family, camping and playing cards with her camping group, growing flowers, decorating her home, reading, spending time at the family cottage in Sturgeon Bay, antiquing, attending her daughter’s concerts and events, and simply watching the deer grazing in her backyard. She was a kind and trusting friend, a devoted wife and mother. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Kathy is survived by her one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Chris Hyer, Petersburg, Alaska; two grandchildren: Calder and Cora Hyer; one sister and brother-in-law: Mary and Marty Gust; one brother and sister-in-law: Roy and Diane Anderson; many nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends. She was proceeded in death by her husband Dick in 2014, parents Elmer and Elizabeth, stepmother Margaret, her brother John, and her camping family Bernie and Jerry.
Private funeral services will be held by invitation only due to the COVID pandemic on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. In lieu of flowers or donations, consider donating to Unbound (www.unbound.org), an organization where Kathy sponsored various in-need elders.
