Deputies in the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department now have a new co-worker, who has a nose for crime.
The Department announced that K9 Alek completed his training two weeks ago, and went on his first patrol last Thursday (February 18th). K9 Alek is paired up with Deputy Ken Matuszak and will be used for drug detection, tracking, searches, and the apprehension of suspects.
Alek is the second K9 to join the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department after K9 Amer was added to the force about three years ago. In that time, Amer was utilized an estimated 1,500 times.
The two K9 teams will work opposite shifts, to ensure full K9 coverage to keep the community safe.
