Felician Village in Manitowoc is praising one of their nurses after she completed her Gerontological Nursing Certification.
Joan Smaglik, a Health and Nurse Educator at the local assisted living facility, recently renewed her certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The goal of gerontological nursing certification and education is to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who work with or care for older adults by providing an educational experience that is multidisciplinary in nature.
Individuals who work with the older population will need continuing professional education to gain a broad understanding of the field of gerontology and healthy aging and to stay current with emerging trends such as mental health, abuse, pain assessment and management, sleep, disorders of communication, and dementias.
