Betty J. Trefz, age 85, of Manitowoc, passed away early Sunday morning, March 14, 2021 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Betty was born on April 13, 1935 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Peterson) Vetter. She graduated with the class of 1953 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Betty was a life-long member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church. On November 13, 1953 she married Ralph Trefz in Augusta, GA. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2019. Betty and her husband enjoyed traveling with their family and camping for over 40 years in their travel trailer, traveling throughout the United States and into Canada and Mexico. Betty especially enjoyed the trip to the Canadian Rockies.
Survivors include her three loving daughters and one son-in-law: Kathleen (Charles) Behnke, Manitowoc, Barbara Lefky, Independence, MN, Joan Kersten, Manitowoc; three special grandchildren: Brandon Behnke, Jason Kersten, and Joseph (Dannielle) Kersten; two step-sisters-in-law: Helen Shelffo, Denver, CO, Arlene Umnus, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Walter and Pearl Vetter; her husband Ralph Trefz; two sons-in-law: Theodore Loken (Barbara Lefky), Jim Schoemer (Joan Kersten); four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Eugene Vetter, Elton Vetter, Ervin (Violet) Vetter, Milton (Eleanor) Vetter; three sisters and four brothers-in-law: Delores “Dolly” (Larry) Wojta, Hazel (Clarence) Waack, Lucille (Orland) Hall, Robert Trefz.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in an effort to keep everyone safe, the family requests that everyone please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
