Elaine Augusta Schmitz, age 94, passed away Monday morning, March 22, 2021 at St. Mary’s Felician Village in Manitowoc.
Elaine was born to Otto and Viola (Weyer) Schmitz on June 5, 1926 in the township of Newton. She attended Whittier Public School and was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church in Newton.
In spite of being homebound most of her life, Elaine was a smart and feisty individual. She defied her age and disability with her irresistible smile, strong personality and loving nature. Elaine enjoyed sports and was quite knowledgeable about teams and players (especially the Brewers). She also loved movies, TV and took interest in world events. Elaine had particular opinions about politics, voted in every election and never doubted her choices. Those of us who knew and loved her will miss her special ability to inspire conversation and laughter.
Survivors include her niece Barbara Erdman (Tom) Wausau, WI, great nephews Daniel (Kristin), Chicago, IL and Peter Erdman, Denver CO, niece Susan Grosshuesch, Kewaunee, WI, nephew John Grosshuesch (Rhonda Rizzo), Appleton, WI, step-niece Nancy Clark and her extended family, Valparaiso, IN and family friends, Jon and Debbie Hochkammer, their children, Rachel, Eric, Heidi and their extended families.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and sister-in-law: Howard and (Dorothy) Schmitz, one sister and brother-in-law: Kathryn (Paul and Erma) Grosshuesch.
