As another day passes, Manitowoc County is getting closer and closer toward herd immunity over COVID-19.
The County took another step toward that yesterday (April 7th), as 964 more vaccines were administered. Of those, roughly half were given out to first-time patients.
As of yesterday’s report from the Health Department, 43,599 vaccines have been administered, with 27,446 of those being first dose shots, and 34.8% of County residents have gotten at least one dose of either the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
The magic number, according to health experts, is 70% vaccination to ensure herd immunity.
Also in that report, three more cases were reported, bringing the pandemic total up to 7,374, while one fewer person is being treated for COVID in area hospitals. That number now sits at 22.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases remained unchanged at 2.1 new cases per day.
No new deaths were reported, leaving that number at 68 for two straight weeks.
In Sheboygan County, there was another minor spike in cases.
The Division of Public Health reported 20 news cases, alongside 13 recoveries. This brings their pandmeic totals up to 13,356 confirmed cases, 13,046 recoveries, and leaves 176 cases active.
The death toll remained unchanged at 134.
