Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the search for a new director of the Office of Violence Prevention is already underway.
After five years in the position, Reggie Moore is leaving to take a job with the Medical College of Wisconsin at the end of this month.
Moore says he will build a team there to advocate for violence prevention policies on a statewide and national level.
Milwaukee has put into place a “Blueprint for Peace” under Moore’s leadership.
He leaves as Wisconsin’s biggest city continues to see a dramatic increase in violence since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Milwaukee set a record for homicides in 2020.
