Manitowoc’s “Scouting for Food” event to help feed those in need runs thru this Sunday.
Chairman Kristy Knauer tells Seehafer News “Talking to the pantries there’s a huge need to be met. People have lost their jobs for various reasons especially during the pandemic.”
Knauer says Manpower for the City of Manitowoc is down this year so those “customary bags” that have been hung on doors and mailboxes in the past may not have come your way this spring. She says there are two options available for you to donate.
“They can go to Festival Foods and drop off items there and we’ll have a drive-thru in the back parking lot on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.”
Knauer also serves on the Bay Lakes Council of Boy Scouts of America-Lakeshore District. Last year they decided “last minute” to get involved. Because of that- they expected to possibly collect two banana boxes full of food. To their pleasant surprise, they ended up filling seven banana boxes for those in need.
” When the chips are down Manitowoc rises to the occasion every time. It’s truly amazing how generous people are to help those in need.”
Nearly all canned non-perishable food items are accepted but please refrain from glass jars as they are very fragile and if broken the food is usually lost. Donations (including monetary) can also be dropped off at Peter’s Pantry, Grow It Forward or the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County.
