The long-delayed trial for a man accused of a cold case murder from 1975 has been put off another nine months.
First, it took 43 years to find enough evidence to charge Richard Pierce, then the pandemic delayed his trial.
Now, a Door County judge has moved the expected start of the trial to January of next year.
Pierce’s wife, Carol, went missing more than 46 years ago. His trial was supposed to start Tuesday.
When Door County Circuit Court Judge David Weber set a new trial date, the victim’s sister, Jan Rowley, told the court she will be dead before Pierce goes to trial.
Carol Pierce’s body has never been found.
