Chicago Cubs reliever Ryan Tepera has been suspended for three games and fined for what Major League Baseball called “intentionally throwing” at Brandon Woodruff Tuesday (April 13th).
Tepera is appealing the suspension so he remains active while the process plays out.
He threw a 95-mile-an-hour fastball behind Woodruff’s knees after Woodruff had hit Cubs catcher Willson Contreras on his fingers.
Contreras says he didn’t know his pitcher was going to do that to defend him.
Cubs manager David Ross was also suspended for one game and he won’t be on the bench when Chicago hosts Atlanta tonight (April 16th).
