Donald Pryor Miller, 71, died at home March 30, 2021 under the care of his wife Jeanie, son Nathan, and hospice.
Don was born in Long Island, New York, to Kenneth and Dorothy Miller. He grew up in Long Island, and then entered the ROTC at Norwich University in Vermont. With the rank of 1st Lieutenant, Don was a field engineer in Hanau, Germany. It was there that he met Jeanie who was traveling through Europe. They were married in Hanau in 1973. Don worked many years at Eggers Industries, and after retiring he worked at Woodland Face Veneer. He was first and foremost a loving husband, father, and friend. Don was such a good man, with a great deal of intelligence, wisdom, a dry sense of humor, and care for others, with the life experience to back it all up. His kindness was evident to those who knew him and was exemplified by donating a kidney to his brother Bob in 2002. While Don was a soft-spoken man, he had many passions, among them woodworking, gardening, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He never forgave Peter O’Malley for selling the team and moving it to LA. A set of original seats from Ebbet’s Field graces our home. Fly-in fishing trips to remote lakes in Canada became an annual family tradition, as well as trips to California wine country, and then up the coast to Fort Bragg to spend time on the ocean. Two big passions of his were craft beer and good music. Don was connected to both communities through websites like the Beer Advocate and the Trader’s Den. He truly enjoyed having a beer with Nate at 3 Sheeps, and making occasional trips to Central Waters. Don was exceptional at taking pleasure in life’s simple pleasures.
Survivors include Don’s wife of 48 years, Jeanie; son, Nathan; two brothers, Jeff, North Carolina, and Bob, New York; brother-in-law, John (Jane) Crowe, Menasha, WI; Skipper the dog; also nieces, nephews, and friends.
A private celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at HYPERLINK “http://www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com” www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
